I woke up at 12:20am on March 22nd. 10 days overdue. I was having a contraction. I’d had lots of them over the last several weeks. Nothing new. A little annoyed it was happening again in the middle of the night…

On Sunday, July 27th, I woke during the night with lower back pain, cramping, nausea and sporadic contractions and thought it was the official start of labor and Matthew would be coming the next day.

All week long i had been feeling different. Extra moody and emotional. Sick of people asking if she had come yet, or if i was feeling differently. But my body was definitely preparing for this baby to come.

Being a surprise pregnancy, I should have known a lot more surprises and unknown things were headed my way with the delivery of my first son, Noah. 

Concerns about the baby being born prior to my arrival often come up. I always reassure the family that this rarely happens but when it does, those babies always seem to be just fine. The birth of Gabriella is a perfect example….

While most babies take their turns, occasionally, 2 births will be happening at the same time. Luckily, I work with wonderful assistants and other midwives who are able to help out, should the need arise. Baby Alex was born during one of those times….

Leah and Mike wrote numerous letters and had to make multiple phone calls to get their home birth authorized. The approval came at last, only a few weeks before their baby was born, an excellent testament that it is possible to get home birth paid for, even with the most challenging of situations..

My due date was November 20th...Hello! and Goodbye! My hope was to have the baby before Thanksgiving so I could eat a BIG dinner but the baby had other plans.
